Beardstown Park District
Greetings from the Beardstown Park District! We wanted to update you on the exciting progress taking place with the new pool construction. As you may know, the Beardstown Park District received a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to build a new pool back in 2014. Unfortunately, as we approached the groundbreaking of the pool, the grant was put on hold due to the state’s budget negotiations. In 2016, we received word that the grant would now be available to the Beardstown Park District to begin construction in 2017. Due to the delay in the funding, the Park District is facing increased costs to build the facility. With this being said, CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN AND THE NEW POOL IS BEING BUILT using the monies raised prior to the grant and the IDNR grant.
The pool will be built however it could be at the cost of other programming and resources of the Beardstown Park District. We are looking at an additional $300,000 in costs due to normal inflation factors in construction costs between 2014 and 2017. To date, just shy of $300,000 has been raised for the pool however the Board of the Beardstown Park District is hoping to raise additional funds to compliment the $2.5M grant from IDNR to cover the $3.1M total project cost. This new pool is geared to entertain and provide programming for the entire family. Lap lanes, a diving board, expanded children’s pool and play area, and new bath house and concession area are just some of the features we are excited to offer to the families of Beardstown and the surrounding area. We are currently working to develop programming for children and adults of all ages, needs, and interests. There will be ample opportunities for individuals, families and businesses to enjoy this new pool.
Specific details in regards to the new pool facility, fundraising efforts and recognition opportunities are attached with this informational letter. We hope you will take the time to review the details enclosed to see our vision for the new pool and The Beardstown Park District as a whole. We would love to hear from you regarding this project or other ideas for the Beardstown Park District as we continue to serve the families of Beardstown and the surrounding area.
