On October 23, 2014 Governor Pat Quinn made the announcement at Cargill Meat Solutions that the Beardstown Park District was the recipient of a Park and Recreational Facility Construction Grant Program (PARC) grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in the amount of 2.5 million dollars. The Park District has hired Graham and Hyde Architects, Inc. from Springfield Illinois to lead the project. A survey was given to all the students in the Beardstown School District asking them to vote on various water park features they would like that may be available in Beardstown. An Advisory Committee of local citizens has been formed to help the Park District and the architect with ideas for the design of the pool and will have an initial meeting in January to begin finalizing the design of our new waterpark. The preliminary schedule is to have the final design and estimated cost decided by June 2015, receive Illinois Department of Public Health approval by September 2015, receive final bids for construction during August and September 2015 and have ground breaking and begin construction in October of 2015 with the waterpark being completed by June of 2016. Although the Park District has already raised over $270,000.00 for our required contribution of 10% to receive the IDNR grant, unless the construction bids come in under the original estimate of $2.9 million (which is very unlikely), we will still need to raise additional funds. If needed the Park District will be conducting an additional fundraising drive with all donors who give above a certain specified amount being recognized in some permanent fashion at the new water park facility. Thank you for your past and continued support of our dream of a new Pool/Waterpark complex for Beardstown.
